Forward

I'm still not feeling great, to be honest. There's a lot of quasi-political bullshit going on in my local Atheist group over a particularly disagreeable...scratch that...an insanely pedantic, condescending, thoroughly disagreeable individual and it's hard not to be affected by it. I'm pretty easy to get along with but I decided a long time ago that people like this fell well outside the range of bullshit I'm willing to tolerate. Hopefully he gets the hint that people don't like him and fucks off to wherever it is assholes like him go when they aren't trying to cause trouble...

Apart from that, I've been having some stomach trouble - bloating, mild nausea, tightness - probably from an undiagnosed ulcer. I've been trying to eat more fermented foods (because I read on a website that things like honey, sauerkraut and cabbage are supposed to be good at alleviating ulcer symptoms) and do some yoga, and that seems to help somewhat.

As for my emotional state, I tend to listen to sad songs over and over when I'm in these states. Today, for instance, I've been looping Sick Cycle Carousel by Lifehouse with The Riddle by Five for Fighting. The holidays will be over soon so hopefully that will help a bit.

On the good news side of things, one of my friends in the Atheist group did me a huge favor by helping me to find something to replace the Lenovo x60 tablet I damaged when I got frustrated and punched the screen. I now have a Dell Inspiron Duo Mini and an Acer Aspire One, both running different flavors of Ubuntu Linux. The Dell is finally satifying one of the reasons I wanted a tablet in the first place (being able to read my digital comics) that the Lenovo couldn't accomplish well enough. However, the Dell can't do at all what the Lenovo could quite well, which is function as a drawing tablet. The Dell is a touch screen but it doesn't work with the same kinds of stylus that Wacom-enabled devices use. If I want anything that will work, I'll have to sort through the quagmire of rubber-tipped finger simulator stylus' to find something more accurate.

Anyway, enough of my bullshit. Since I basically slagged off most of November's offerings, Ill just start in with December and leave to you all to look into the SCA archives if you're really that interested in seeing what they had to offer.

I'd be opposed too if my entire world view rested on a foundation as shaky as christianity...

Sounds like it could be an interesting read. If anyone gets their hands on it before I do, please let me know how it is.

D.C. bans gay conversion therapy of minors

Good to hear, though this could all be solved with a Federal mandate prohibiting conversion therapy in all instances, because...like...you know...conversion therapy is bullshit pushed by fascist religionists...or something...

I have a fundie relative who lives in Indiana and I really hope this gets his panties in a twist... LOL

The only 'grave injustice' here is that people still take catholicsm seriously... Grow the fuck up...

7

SALON: Is mocking religion enough? Harris, Dawkins and the future of atheist/secular politics

It may not be the whole enchilada but it does add flavor to an otherwise mediocre meal... Stupid ideas are stupid ideas and tolerating them is unreasonable.

8

Local Congregation Says American Atheists Are Unfairly Targeting Children

Right... Because churches have never, ever been guilty of using their means of promotion to lure kids into believing their fairy tale bullshit...

Humanism needs Christianity says religious think tank

No, christianity needs to get the fuck out and make way for a rationalist, evidence based system of morality...

Religious Freedom Restoration Act sparks debate

When 'religious freedom' means allowing bigots to discriminate against people they disagree with on moral grounds, that's the line we reasonable people need to draw when it comes to religion and law. No religiously inspired mandate should ever be allowed to supercede civil jurisprudence.

12

Silent Night: Atheist billboard won't return to Pitman this year

Of course...because it's just so much easier to cow-tow to ignorance than it is to stand up for what's morally correct...
